The Dark Knight earns ridiculous amounts of money

The race to $151 Million is on, and through the estimated box office numbers from Friday, it seems that “The Dark Knight” is on pace to eek into the best-ever opening weekend spot. The flick made an estimate $60-62 Million on Friday alone, beating “Spider-Man 3’s” first-day box office by $1-3 Million. So, basically if this keeps up, “The Dark Knight” will make history with the best opening weekend ever.

This coming from Variety:

f Friday’s surge in theater traffic continues through the weekend, the frame could bring the best box office gross overall for a non-holiday weekend.

“Dark Knight’s” Friday haul includes an estimated $18.5 million in midnight shows, beating the previous midnight record set by Fox’s “Star Wars, Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith” which grossed $16.9 million from 3,663 venues.

The film is taking over pop culture, literally — everyone’s seeing it, everyone’s talking about it, it’s all over the news and blogs (I mean, just look at mine), and the people who are unfortunate enough to have not seen it yet are being left out of conversations all over America.
